offering excellent violin lessons and chamber music coaching at an affordable price, and with discounts if needed, to students from all backgrounds.

It’s more important than ever that music is taught properly – by those who have studied and perform at high levels as professional musicians, themselves.

Good string teaching, where it exists should not be confined to the private sector. While I have taught in ‘prestigious’ and well -known private schools in the past, my own musical background was forged in the valleys of S.Wales, where, in my formative years, I was lucky to have free lessons with excellent teachers as part of state provision.

However, the ‘state of the arts’ – classical music, especially, and instrumental teaching in the state sector, now reflects a deep dive (mainly) into a populist abyss – serving precisely no one.

With help from some of my esteemed colleagues I’m aiming to stem this deterioration and provide fulfilling, high-level lessons and inspiration for children and young adults who otherwise might never discover the life changing power of practical music making.

Rather than encouraging the study of classical music in all its forms solely as an adjunct or as a means of supporting the school curriculum, studying an instrument like the violin has its own powerful reasons for existing – helping us reflect on and engaging more fully with the rich drama that is all our lives.
